You can have good procedures, new equipment and clear goals. If the people do not fit the job and the team, all of it works at half capacity. That is why the most important decision in a growing company is not about a system or a piece of software, but about who does the work.
Why fit matters more than the CV
A good CV does not automatically mean the right employee. The differences show up in things you cannot see on paper:
- reliability and attitude toward schedules and rules;
- the ability to adapt to a new environment;
- the way the person works alongside colleagues;
- their real expectations about the job, pay and conditions.
A well-chosen team works faster, adapts more easily to change and stays stable over time. A team chosen in a hurry drains the energy of your best people.
The cost of a wrong choice
An unsuitable employee is not just an unfortunate choice. It means:
- time lost training someone who leaves;
- extra costs for a new recruitment round;
- lower productivity and mistakes in production or on site;
- pressure on the colleagues who cover the gaps.
In international recruitment, the cost of a mistake is even higher, because the process takes months, not weeks. That is why selection has to be done right from the start.
What sound recruitment looks like
Effective recruitment does not mean filling a position as fast as possible, but finding the right person for that role. In practice, this involves four steps:
- A real understanding of the position. What the person does on a typical day, what they work with, on what schedule, under what conditions.
- Careful selection. Structured interviews, not general conversations.
- Verification. Stated experience is verified, and for trades there is a practical test.
- Fit with the work environment. The candidate must know exactly what to expect and agree with it.
Signs that selection was rushed
- Candidates only learn important details about the job on their first day of work.
- The first departures happen in the first weeks, with reasons like "nobody told me that...".
- Supervisors spend more time correcting mistakes than organizing the work.
- No one can say exactly why a particular candidate was chosen.
If you recognize these situations, the problem is usually not the people, but the way they were chosen and informed.
How to prepare a good recruitment request
The quality of the candidates depends a lot on how clearly you state what you need. Before you talk to an agency, prepare answers to the questions below:
- How many people do you need and by when?
- What specific tasks will they do? Do you need skilled or unskilled staff?
- What minimum experience is mandatory and what is just a plus?
- What is the schedule? Is there shift work, weekend work, outdoor work?
- What salary do you offer and what benefits (housing, transport, meals)?
- Who in the company will coordinate the new colleagues in the first weeks?
With this information, the recruiter can filter correctly from the start, and you receive candidates who actually fit.
Why companies choose a recruitment partner
More and more companies work with specialized agencies, especially when they are looking for staff from other countries. The reasons are practical:
- they save their in-house team's time;
- they get access to vetted candidates from countries where they could not recruit on their own;
- they reduce the risk of a wrong selection;
- they have someone who knows the legal steps: work permit (aviz de muncă), visa, single permit (permis unic).
A good partner does not just send you candidates. They tell you honestly what is realistic in terms of timeline and cost, flag risks early and also tell you when a certain profile is hard to find.
How we work at SSM HR Services
Since 2020, we have recruited more than 1,000 people for companies in Romania, from 9 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. We work for construction, manufacturing, logistics, hospitality (HoReCa) and agriculture. We organize the interviews in the country of origin, which you can attend, verify experience and run practical tests where the role requires them.
Our goal is not just to fill positions, but to help you build a stable team. For companies that prefer someone else to be the employer and handle the administration, we work with SSM Global Workforce, which provides staff leasing.
Tell us which positions you need to fill and request a quote. We start from your real needs, not from a standard package.
